Volunteer Roles

Turtle Care

Daily care of rehabilitation patients including feeding preparation, tank cleaning, health monitoring, and data recording.

  • Minimum commitment: 3 months, 2 days/week
  • Training provided: 2-week induction program
  • Requirements: Physical fitness, reliable attendance

Nest Protection and Monitoring

Record nesting activity including turtles coming onto the beach to lay eggs and estimate when hatchlings will emerge.

  • Minimum commitment: Flexible, minimum 1 patrol/month
  • Training provided: Nesting workshop
  • Requirements: Availability November-January

Sea Turtle Education and Awarenes

Deliver presentations to schools, create educational materials, and engage with community events.

  • Minimum commitment: 6 months, flexible hours
  • Training provided: Mentoring
  • Requirements: Good communication skills, passion for teaching

Sea Turtle Stranding Resonse

Support sea turtle rescue across Magnetic Island and Townsville and collect important data on any dead sea turtles

  • Minimum commitment: 3 months
  • Training provided: Sea Turtle Stranding Workshop
  • Requirements:Physical fitness, own transport

Volunteer Requirements

General Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older (16+ with parental consent)
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various conditions
  • Ability to follow instructions and protocols
